Podcasting from the Classroom

Do you listen to podcasts? Mr. Chris Stuchko, a special education teacher at Emmaus High School, recently launched “The 9th Grade Experience” podcast series. I’ve listened to the first episode so far, and it weaves together information about the school with student and staff interviews in a professionally produced story aimed at students entering high school for the first time.

The podcast will also be of interest to parents and community members who want a glimpse of what it’s like to be in school today. And the series is a great example of new, innovative techniques being used by our teachers to help our students. Podcasts have skyrocketed in popularity in recent years, and they offer the opportunity for students to combine education in public speaking, interviewing, art, advertising, technical computer skills, science, and even math all in one project that ultimately benefits a greater audience.

You can listen to the podcast yourself using the link above, or find it on Stitcher, iTunes, Google Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Congratulations to Mr. Stuchko on the project. I hope there are many more podcast seasons to come! And thanks to the EPSD Education Foundation for providing a grant to get the project off the ground.
