What Books Should We Ban?

My answer is 0. Books are the community’s window into the full range of human experience and belief. To ban or restrict books is to become the thought police over others. There are some truly awful opinions out there in the world. The best way to deal with them is to discuss and challenge them. Hiding and censoring them only creates distrust, ignorance, and fear.

It’s Banned Books Week this week, and the American Library Association reports there were 483 books that were challenged or banned in the United States last year alone– some books were even burned! Here’s a list of the most frequently targeted titles:
