9/14/20 School Board Meeting Guide

No major decisions were made at last night’s school board meeting, so I’ll make this short and sweet. What did you miss? Superintendent Campbell outlined some of the technical difficulties encountered by students, parents, and staff in the first weeks of implementing this remote/hybrid school year. She believes these problems were limited to individual cases, rather than systemic issues, and that most such problems have now been resolved. Watch her remarks for yourself here. The bulk of the meeting was taken up by a presentation and discussion of Communities in Schools, a national non-profit organization that provides mental health support to students at the middle and high schools. Last year they worked with hundreds of East Penn students who were struggling with challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, suicidal thoughts, and family issues. You can watch the presentation here and view the presentation slides here. Finally, the board discussed ongoing work (and its cost) to repair the sinkholes that were discovered last month in the EPSD Stadium in the wake of the new turf field installation. Watch here; the most documents related to the issue are available here and here.
