9/13/21 School Board Meeting Guide

Last night’s school board meeting was a calmer affair than those held the last two months. A number of community members spoke against universal masking, calling the policy child abuse, unconstitutional, dangerous, and ridiculous. All but one had already spoken at previous meetings, and both the speakers and the audience remained civil and did not interrupt the proceedings as has happened in the past.

There were no major decisions made by the board last night. I think many people will find the superintendent’s report on district procedures for covid contact tracing and supporting quarantined students the most useful part of the meeting. Board members asked a number of important questions about these procedures. The theme that emerged was a common interest in improving district transparency and communication with the larger community. You can watch the superintendent’s report and subsequent discussion here.
